Role:

CFP Energy is seeking an experienced and highly analytical Derivatives Trader to join our Trading team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to operate at the forefront of commodity markets, managing trade execution, optimising trading strategies, and contributing to the development of advanced options modelling and pricing frameworks.

 

As a Derivatives Trader, you will take ownership of trading processes, ensuring seamless execution while collaborating with analysts, risk managers, and operational teams to drive market insights and enhance performance across various energy markets.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Monitor markets to identify, evaluate, and act on trading opportunities in key cross-commodity markets.

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of price trends, market data, and regulatory developments to inform and refine trading strategies.

  • Execute trades across cross-commodity markets, monitor performance, and adjust strategies as needed to optimise profitability while ensuring compliance with internal risk and regulatory guidelines.

  • Manage trade execution processes, ensuring accurate records, trade confirmations, and efficient handling of deliveries and settlements in line with contract requirements.

  • Develop, enhance, and implement quantitative models for derivatives pricing and trading strategies.

  • Perform complex analysis on large datasets to uncover insights that drive trading decisions and strategy development.

  • Conduct thorough research on financial markets and instruments to refine and enhance trading models.

  • Lead the design, execution, and evaluation of back-tests to validate the performance and robustness of pricing and risk models.

  • Oversee the development and refinement of pricing engines for exotic derivative contracts.

  • Ensure accurate daily position reconciliation and proactively investigate, identify, and resolve discrepancies.

  • Own and streamline trade bookings, trade recaps, and confirmation processes to ensure operational efficiency.

  • Act as a key liaison between trading, risk management, and operational teams, ensuring alignment and smooth trading operations.

Job requirements

Ideal candidate:

  • A degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Ideally 5 – 8 years of experience in derivatives trading within the commodity markets.

  • Proven expertise in quantitative analysis, risk management, and strategy optimisation.

  • Strong experience handling large datasets and conducting quantitative analysis to inform trading decisions.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, with expertise in data analysis tools & libraries like Pandas, NumPy, SciPy.

  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in managing trade records, confirmations, and market flows.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risks and implement data-driven solutions in a structured manner.

  • Hands-on experience in developing and refining machine learning models and algorithms for trading applications.

  • A deep understanding of financial instruments, derivatives pricing, and hedging strategies.

  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and collaborate effectively within a fast-paced trading environment.
