The Role:
As a member of the Trading Desk, you'll play a pivotal role in refining and expanding our forecasting capabilities, empowering traders and other areas of the business with actionable insights to optimise and drive trading activities. Joining a growing trading desk, your contributions will be instrumental in driving our continued growth and ensuring our success in a rapidly evolving Energy market.
You will have key focus of forecasting demand for our growing Power and Gas supply books. There will also be opportunities for renewable generation forecasting for our growing PPA book and informing national demand forecasts for wholesale market analysis.
Responsibilities:
· Using existing forecasting systems to produce portfolio demand forecasts from short term (intraday) to long term (up to 5 years)
· Daily analysis of, including ad-hoc amendments, and approval of our forecasts before publishing via excel reports, Power BI,, and internal software
· Monitor accuracy and performance of the various forecasts and communicate results to relevant technical and non-technical stakeholders
· Inform development of new forecasting models, processes and systems
· Working collaboratively as part of a team of analysts
About You:
· Excellent attention to detail is critical given the nuance inherent in forecasting and the large volumes of energy, and hence money, involved
· Self-starter who takes the initiative to not just complete tasks but expand upon them - we are constantly aiming to grow our teams’ forecasting capabilities.
· Able to work independently or as part of a team
· A degree in a relevant field such as STEM, Economics, Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or any other related quantitative discipline would be preferable.
· Experience with a programming language, ideally Python
· Experience with time series data modelling
· Articulate in describing complex forecasting results in a concise and clear manner
Job requirements
Ideal Candidate:
· 1-3 years’ experience in the energy sector
· Experience of forecasting energy volumes for a utility, trading house or similar
· Experience forecasting National Energy Demand or Generation
· Experience writing SQL
