Job description

Policy Analyst – Carbon, Energy & Environmental Markets

About us:

Our mission is to facilitate the transition to a low-carbon economy by providing innovative financial solutions to our clients.

CFP Energy is a leading provider of carbon, energy and environmental solutions, working with industrial and commercial clients across Europe to navigate the transition to a low-carbon future. We combine deep market expertise with an integrated toolkit of physical and financial risk management solutions spanning carbon markets, energy procurement, environmental products, and wider commodities. Our mission is to help clients manage risk, unlock opportunity and build long-term resilience in a rapidly evolving policy and market landscape.

About the Role

We are seeking a Policy Analyst with a strong background in Emissions Trading Systems (ETS), renewable energy certificates, and energy market regulation to join our expanding team. You will play a pivotal role in tracking policy developments, interpreting regulatory change, and translating these insights into commercial implications for both CFP Energy and our clients.

This is a high-impact role at the intersection of policy, markets, and commercial strategy, supporting work across carbon trading, compliance optimisation, and innovative environmental solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse developments in the UK ETS, EU ETS, and other global carbon pricing mechanisms, including allocation rules, market reforms, and cross-border measures.

  • Support internal teams in identifying client ETS compliance exposure, forecasting carbon costs, and developing optimisation strategies.

  • Track regulatory changes across energy markets, including renewable support schemes, renewable energy certificate mechanisms, and broader decarbonisation policies.

  • Assess how shifts in carbon and energy policy create commercial risks and opportunities, informing trading strategies, client insights, and product development.

  • Produce clear and concise policy briefings, scenario analyses, and strategic insights for traders, commercial teams, risk managers, and clients.

  • Engage with regulators, industry bodies, and market participants to stay ahead of emerging trends and contribute to relevant policy consultations.

  • Support the growth and visibility of CFP Energy’s carbon and environmental product offering, including providing market intelligence for website articles, updating client presentations, and contributing policy commentary for news wires.

Job requirements

Ideal candidate:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in carbon policy, energy markets or climate regulation.

  • Strong understanding of carbon pricing, emissions trading, allowance markets, and energy system economics.

  • Proven ability to translate complex policy detail into commercially relevant insights for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality written outputs under time pressure.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where policy, markets, and client needs evolve quickly.

  • Curious, proactive, and motivated by helping organisations navigate the low-carbon transition.

The CF Group is committed to ensuring equal opportunities, fairness of treatment, dignity and respect, and the elimination of all forms of discrimination in the workplace for all employees/contractors and job applicants.
