Role:

The Market Risk Analyst will be exposed to many areas of the business including, participation in the development, implementation and running of robust risk models and stress testing scenarios, and provide insights on risk appetite and margin optimisation strategies. Collaboration is key with cross-functional teams to align risk management practices with broader business objectives.


Essential functions of the job:

  • Identify, investigate, quantify and monitor risks and exposures across a wide range of products in the sustainability, environmental and energy markets.
  • Run, maintain and improve the Risk Reporting Framework.
  • Contribute to the Group portfolio management and perform pre-trade analyses
  • Manage the relationship with service providers.
  • Proactive participation in change initiatives across the Group to achieve business results.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting, developing tools as needed, to support commercial decision making.
  • Support the development of a culture of risk management throughout the Group via knowledge sharing and communication.
  • Provide expertise and guidance to colleagues at all levels on risk-related matters.
  • Compliance with relevant Group and company policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for people, processes or technology change.
  • Contribute to the review and remediation of incidents or breaches.
  • Engage collaboratively across the Group, to ensure a coordinated enterprise-wide approach to risk management.

Job requirements

Skills required:

  • Understanding of derivatives and operations, ideally within commodities space.
  • Understanding of energy markets, trading strategies and financial instruments an advantage.
  • Proficiency in risk modelling.
  • Understanding of ISDA, CSAs, and margin calls.
  • Quantitative analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – a confident, credible, persuasive, and collaborative team player.
  • Demonstrate initiative by proposing solutions, acting independently, and confidently challenging the status quo.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with motivation to add value to the Group.
  • Demonstrates high ethical standards and integrity.
  • Adaptable to business change and skilled at working in a fast-paced, challenging environment.


Experience required:

  • Previous experience in a similar or supportive role within the energy trading/commodities/other industry.
  • Experience in building and maintaining models.
  • Experience building scalable and maintainable Python scripts.
  • Strong technical background with experience with commodities trading and risk management software and systems.
