Role

Join CFP’s legal team as Senior Legal Counsel, reporting directly to the General Counsel. In this role, you will gain broad exposure to all business lines and be involved in power purchase agreements, commodity trading documents, corporate documents, complex derivatives, financing facilities, and litigation. You will work with a wide variety of products and documents and assist in managing our established yet growing legal team.


Essential functions of this job:

  • Responsible for the provision of comprehensive legal advice across the portfolio on a variety of commercial issues.
  • Work in collaboration with the business in the preparation, reviewing and negotiation of commercial agreements and contracts.
  • Monitor and provide proactive advice to the business regarding changes in relevant legislation and regulatory environments.
  • Responsible for advising the business on potential legal risks and providing mitigation strategies.
  • Train and mentor junior legal colleagues.
  • Collaborate with external counsel when necessary.
  • Be a trusted source of knowledge to the business.

Job requirements

Ideal candidate: 

  • At least 4-5 years of post-qualification experience in the UK. 
  • Experience in project finance, including structuring and negotiating complex financing agreements.
  • Strong legal foundation and technical expertise.
  • Thorough and diligent – good attention to detail.
  • Adaptable, pragmatic, with a commercial mindset.
  • Possess gravitas with the ability to influence and negotiate with internal and external teams.
  • Experience working in energy and/or commodities (preferred).
  • Flexible with a proactive attitude towards work, and strong academics.
